Meet award winning, Haitian-American author, Rose St. Paul, a University of Florida alumna who is currently the owner of No Junk Food Zone, LLC. Inspired by her previous occupation as an Early Childhood Education Consultant as well as the development of her nieces, nephews, and own children, Rose created Mari Lou, the star character of her children’s book series titled, “The Adventures of Mari Lou”. Growing up, her parents, both Haitian immigrants, were strict and solely used the “because I said so” approach. Years later, while adopting that same approach, Rose realized her “old school” child rearing strategy had to be met with some modification. Transitioning to providing her children explanations proved to be beneficial for encouraging positive behaviors. Utilizing that foundational element, “The Adventures of Mari Lou” tackles serious topics with a softer undertone, creating an environment that makes it easier for discussion.
